With a summer full of events to mark onto your calendar, visitors can be as busy or as quiet as they choose. For those wishing to explore a little further a field, there are over 200 geocaches within 50 miles of Watrous. Geocaching is a worldwide game loved by Global Positioning System (GPS) users. The game basically involves a GPS user hiding a treasure/cache (a container containing a log book and often small items for trade) and publishing the exact coordinates on the Internet so other GPS users can go on a 'treasure hunt' to locate it. Geocaching is open to everyone who loves adventure and there are over one million active geocaches worldwide. Some of the local caches will lead you to beautiful Wellington Park at Manitou Beach, the oldest bird sanctuary in North America, near Simpson, to the popular fishing hole at Dellwood Reservoir northeast of Watrous, to the Twister movie artifact in Watrous and near the historic CBK radio station on the outskirts of Watrous. Perfect for families, geocaching is the perfect way to visit some of the unique features of the area while enticing the youngsters with a technological version of hide and seek.
